Dana Maier

Theater Faculty

Dana Maier, (B.S., Radford University, M.F.A., University of Alabama) has been teaching courses in Scene Painting and Scene Design at George Mason University since 2005. She has designed scenery for Mason Players, GMU Opera, Theater of the First Amendment, and the IN Series at the Tivoli Theater in DC. Dana has assisted many professional designers, the majority of which were during her MFA Residency at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery, Alabama where she served as the on-site Assistant Scene Designer to all Guest Scene Designers. Dana has worked as a professional scenic painter within the DC Metro area, with her work appearing at the Barns of Wolf Trap, The Filene Center, Ford’s Theater, Folger Shakespeare Theater, Washington Opera, the Smithsonian, BBC America, and BET. She also served several seasons as the Charge Scene Artist for Wolf Trap Opera Company. Dana enjoys her added roles as a scene painting consultant and a mentor to design students, discussing concepts and helping student designers and craftspeople work through the challenges of a working production.
