Theater Faculty

Since moving to the United States in 2002, Luciana Stecconi (Asst Professor of Theater, Scenic Design at George Mason University) has been an active member of the theatre community both as a Set Designer and Scenic Artist.

Born and raised in Buenos Aires, she was educated at the Universidad del Salvador in her native Argentina, and later received a MFA in Theatre Design and Painting from Brandeis University. As a prolific Scenic Designer in the Washington DC area since 2006, Luciana has designed for a wide range of DC theaters and venues, including Studio Theatre, Signature Theatre, The Kennedy Center TYA, Woolly Mammoth Theatre, Roundhouse Theatre, Imagination Stage, Adventure Theatre MTC, Theatre J, Mosaic Theatre, 1st Stage, Theater of the First Amendment, Synetic Theatre, Gala Hispanic, Everyman Theatre, and the Contemporary American Theatre Festival,  among others.


She continues to work as a freelance designer, with several projects for the 2017-2018 season, including shows at the Folger Theatre, Studio Theatre, Olney Theatre, and Marin Theatre in California.


As a Scenic Artist, Luciana worked for Studio Theatre in Washington DC in the role of Resident Scenic Charge Artist from August 2006 to April 2013. She has also painted for Barrington Stage Company, the University of Delaware PTTP, Folger Theatre, Surflight Theatre, Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center, Mosaic Theater, Theater J.

She has previously served as Adjunct Professor and Guest Artist at American University and Adjunct Assistant Professor and Guest Artist at Georgetown University.

Luciana was awarded the Ira Gershwin Prize in Theatre Arts from Brandeis University in 2006, and was the winner of the 2010 Outstanding Emerging Artist Award at the 25th Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards Ceremony in Washington, DC.
