Phil Male: (BA in Theatre from JMU and his MFA in Scenic Design and Theatre Technology from VCU)  

Over the years, Phil has worked professionally as a carpenter, rigger, scenic artist, scenic charge, assistant technical director, technical director, and production manager. He even spent a few years working as an AV installer for multi room Audio Video and Home Theatre installation. Most recently he was working as the Dept. Chair of Fine Arts and Humanities at Ivy Tech Community College - Bloomington, IN where he helped grow and develop several art classes including Digital Arts and Mural and Graffiti Painting.

 

Currently he is the Production and Facilities Manager for the JCC of Northern Virginia - Fairfax.  

 

When not teaching or working on otherproductions, he still works as a professional freelance scenic designer. Over the years he has designed for several theatres in DC, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia, and Indiana.  Some of the theatres include:  Aurora Theatre, Barksdale Theatre, Theatre West Virginia, Forum Theatre, Legacy Theatre, Actor's Express, Georgia Ensemble Theatre, Georgia Shakespeare Theatre, The Phoenix Theatre (Indianapolis) and others. His work has been nominated for several awards and in 2012 he won the Suzi Bass award for Best Scenic Design of a Musical for his design of "Les Miserables" at Atlanta area's Aurora Theatre.
